Six Words???

Holly tagged me for the six word meme: describe your life or yourself in exactly six words:

Stop! You're going the wrong way!

I'm not tagging anyone -- but feel free to take it

Poem Thursday

Since we are between Palm Sunday and Easter here is a poem from Mary Oliver's book Thirst:

Coming to God: First Days

Lord, what shall I do that I
can't quiet myself?
Here is the bread, and
here is the cup, and
I can't quiet myself.

To enter the language of transformation!
To learn the importance of stillness,
    with one's hands folded!

When will my eyes of rejoicing turn peaceful?
When will my joyful feet grow still?
When will my heart stop its prancing
    as over the summer grass?

Lord, I would run for you, loving the miles for your sake.
I would climb the highest tree
to be that much closer.

Lord, I will learn also to kneel down
into the world of the invisible,
    the inscrutable and the everlasting.
Then I will move no more than the leaves of a tree
on a day of no wind,
bathed in light,
like the wanderer who has come home at last
and kneels in peace, done with all unnecessary things;
every motion; even words.

Marshmallows Gone Wild

A Peep Show

Ten Things Tuesday - The Home Edition

Ten Mysteries From the House of Panic

1. Even though I sent J to Kr*ger at 9:00 p.m. yesterday (less then 12 hours ago) I already have three items on the list that MUST BE PURCHASED TODAY.

2. There are three huge baskets of clean laundry on the dining room floor -- but still 9Pim had to wear yesterday's school pants to school today -- I couldn't find any clean ones.

3. Although I am keeping the local Targ*t in business by purchasing giant packages of socks every other week I still spend a minimum of five minutes every morning trying to find matching socks for the boys (audio not available due to inappropriate content).

4. The dishes. Seriously.

5. Although 9Pim is capable of building the K'nex Roller Coaster he is NOT capable of putting away his shoes, his belt, or putting socks in the hamper (thus #3).

6. I think there are tiny little elves under the boys beds manufacturing itty bitty toy pieces and then during the night they go around the house and leave them everywhere.

7. Why does two hours of doing something I enjoy (reading, sewing) feel like five minutes, but five minutes of cleaning the house feels like two hours? Is there a drug for this?

8. When is it that the two dogs are letting their neighborhood buddies in the back yard? Because, seriously, I don't see how it is possible for two dogs to produce that much poop.

9. They say inanimate objects can't reproduce. Well, I have a house full of dryer sheets and plastic grocery bags that prove that theory wrong. (back off! i use the canvas bags most of the time).

10. Even though the fridge and pantry are full to overflowing (except for those three items mentioned in #1) why does it seem like there is nothing in the house to eat?

Miscellaneous Friday

I can't believe I just spelled miscellaneous on the first try.

Just a quiet day. The boys had the day off and I took the day off as well. Finally made it to yoga this morning. This afternoon we saw Horton Heard a Who. It was good and cute and fun. It's incredible to me that my children are at the age where we can say "Hey, we should go to the movies this afternoon" and it doesn't involve major logistical planning.

I cleaned. Just a little. Did the grocery shopping, stopped at St#rbucks, made dinner and now I'm thinking about doing a little sewing.

Last weekend I finished this (sorry for the blurry photo):

It's 14 square inches, made up of 16 two-inch squares and 4 four inch squares. Each square has about 14 pieces of fabric. I little crazy. But now I want to make a large quilt made up of these blocks.

It's crazy small and has no purpose at all, but it was a blast to make. Which I guess is the point....

Ten Things Tuesday

First a huge thank-you to my VBF for the award that is now sitting nicely to the right of this post. THANK YOU!

Secondly a big on-line apology to Ms. Madness for me being a freakin' idiot spazola two-year old moron last week. You are the best yoga teacher and a wonderful friend and I'm an idiot.

You both deserve more than a little mention at the top of my TTT, but (as you may see below) I'm tired and travel-worn..

Ten Things On My Desk in The Fairfield Inn in Huntsville, AL (can I please go home now????)

1) a 1.75 ounce bottle of Aquaphor -- never leave home without it (unless you forget it)

2) my beautiful, huge PowerBook G4 -- I love you G4

3) My stupid Motorola Razr -- it's stupid because now everyone I work with has in iPhone. I NEED ONE. After two months of constant needling on my part it looks like the bossman is going to give in later in the spring -- when the Razr is a year old... That is one of the reasons I love the bossman.

4) business card of the university president who is our client. Who called me into his office yesterday and expressed his "concerns" about our production (this is what we like to call a "come to Jesus" meeting -- I was the one coming to Jesus BTW)

5) an empty Planters Trail mix bag

6) a map of the campus of the University of the president who called me into his office yesterday -- did I mention that part?

7) my trusty black spiral 8" x 5" notebook where I write EVERYTHING down. including notes during my meeting with the president yesterday. furiously wrote notes -- to impress upon him that I understood his concerns and worries and of course he is the client but at some point dude YOU HAVE TO TRUST US. seriously, I kicked some ass.

8) three cards that allow myself and the guys to eat for free at the cafeteria at the university where the president called me into his office yesterday. we are not eating in the cafeteria. yesterday it was IHOP, local and wonderful Mexican place, Macaroni Grill. Today, who knows. considering our first appointment is to record the president who called me into his office yesterday, i'd say the food is going to be GOOD

9) my sweet little iPod Nano -- which is technically 9Pims -- but he's 9 and doesn't need an iPod so I took it

10)oh yes. the TALKING POINTS that were produced by the VP for development that upset my camera man/editor in front of the PR person that caused much controvesy among the university staff that caused me to be CALLED INTO THE PRESIDENTS OFFICE yesterday

Important Historical Facts

OK. 9Pim is in third grade. In third grade they love to hand out the big projects.

Today 9Pim is working on a large poster he has to fill in about a biography he read on Abraham Lincoln. The poster has spaces for a portrait, quotes, facts, etc. It also has three boxes in which you draw pictures and put captions under it --like a story board for a movie.

We've been talking about the movie for awhile now. I've tried convincing him to portray some important time in Lincoln's life -- maybe the assassination or his childhood in the log cabin. If I would have pointed out that assassination has the word ass in it twice it probably would have been a go.

But what do you think he is over there drawing right now?

My son is fascinated with the fact that when Lincoln's son Willie died Mary Todd Lincoln locked herself in her bedroom for weeks and Abe stood at the door begging her to come out.

I have tried everything to convince him this is not historically significant or appropriate but I finally gave up.

His teacher is going to LOVE this.

Reboot

I'm rebooting.
